5 Parts-Related Tips to Remember During February

Parts Package TIPS

February is that time of year when our customers have used their equipment for multiple snow events and are beginning to do evaluations into parts or maintenance requirements.

Even the most durable of equipment will require some maintenance after countless hours of operation.

Here are five tips to keep in mind this month when inspecting your Sno Pusher.

1. Shoe Replacement – Wear shoes that are worn too thin can be potentially harmful to both the operator and the Sno Pusher. Pro-Tech shoes are extremely durable but will eventually need to be replaced. Wear shoes should be replaced when worn at or below 1/4″ thick.

2. Shoe Options – Before ordering a new set of wear shoes make sure you consider Pro-Tech’s specialty shoe options. Are you currently operating your Sno Pusher on a sensitive surface? Do you have any new operators working for you and would like to find an easy way for them to keep the Sno Pusher level? Do you require a longer life out of your wear shoes? Here are some options to consider:

  •  Super Duty Shoe – Provides the highest wear characteristics and longest life. Made from the same bullet-proof material used in armored cars.
  •  Poly Shoe – Ideal for surfaces too sensitive for steel wear shoes. Great for parking garage membranes, pavers, and stamped concrete.
  • Self Leveling Shoe – Keeps the Sno Pusher level and balanced. Eliminates excess wear on the back of the shoe

3. Rubber Wear – Pro-Tech Rubber is an SBR extruded rubber, which demands the highest quality ingredients. This rubber will last a long time and our design allows customers to flip and reverse the rubber, which provides a total of 4 new surfaces that the cutting edge can run on. The back lower edge of your rubber cutting edge should always be between 1/8″ and 1/4″ below the bottom of the wear shoe. This setting provides for optimal performance. As the rubber edge wears, make sure to use the adjustment slots to lower the edge to maintain the optimal position.  When all 4 surfaces have been used and the cutting edge can no longer be adjusted, it should be replaced.

4. Paint – Pro-Tech uses high quality primers and paints on all of our Sno Pusher products. However, the paint will eventually wear and touch-ups will need to be made. You should always make sure that any wear or rust spots on your Sno Pusher are sanded, primed and painted. Not doing so can result in the spread of rust and deterioration of your Sno Pusher. Corrosion can lead to the unit malfunctioning and costly repairs. Many customers that have had their Sno Pusher for over a decade credit pre-season painting as one of the reason’s their Sno Pusher is in excellent condition so many years later. Pro-Tech currently sells paint and primer in both quart and gallon sizes.

5. New Decals – This really isn’t a requirement for optimal Sno Pusher maintenance but it never hurts to keep your equipment looking nice for the customers’ properties you serve. Pro-Tech offers new decals through our online store.
